The song, Terracota Empire by Igor Dvorkin and Duncan Pittcock with pictures of the Forbidden City and things from the Ming and Qing Dynasy The Forbidden City was the Chinese imperial palace from the Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty. It is located in the middle of Beijing, China, and now houses the Palace Museum. For almost 500 years, it served as the home of emperors and their households, as well as the ceremonial and political center of Chinese government. Built in 1406 to 1420, the complex consists of 980 buildings and covers 720000 m2 (7800000 sq ft).[1] The palace complex exemplifies traditional Chinese palatial architecture,[2] and has influenced cultural and architectural developments in East Asia and elsewhere. The Forbidden City was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987,[2] and is listed by UNESCO as the largest collection of preserved ancient wooden structures in the world. Since 1925, the Forbidden City has been under the charge of the Palace Museum, whose extensive collection of artwork and artifacts were built upon the imperial collections of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Part of the museum's former collection is now located in the National Palace Museum in Taipei. Both museums descend from the same institution, but were split after the Chinese Civil War. Around 6 PM, sparks originating from fireworks were blown onto the roof of the building, igniting the blaze in west Beijing's Haidian District. The fire was put out about an hour later. No injuries were reported. Firefighters recently warned that it was dangerous to set off fireworks due to the dry and windy in Beijing over the past few days. Every year, numerous fires are ignited across China during the New Year celebrations by amateur fireworks displays. During the Lunar New Year, a firework ban is lifted in most urban areas across China for the 16 days between the Lunar New Year's Eve and the Lantern Festival. The Lantern Festival, which was celebrated yesterday, marks the end of Lunar New Year.

The resolution was backing a plan to urge the Syrian President to give up power. Syrian and Libyan demonstrators hurled rocks, eggs and tomatoes at the Chinese embassy in Tripoli on Monday. This came after Russia and China vetoed a UN Security Council resolution backing an Arab plan urging Syria's President Bashar al-Assad to give up power. Armed men, who said they were from the Libyan government's Supreme Security Committee, guarded the embassy from about 50 protesters who waved Syrian opposition flags and had managed to break windows and spray graffiti on the walls. [Maher, Protester]: "China stands beside the gangsters of Assad against the Syrian people. The Syrian people have been killed and massacred -- where is the UN? Where are the international human rights organizations? Syrians are killed and bombed by China's war jets and weapons. China today supports the Assad regime to quell the peaceful Syrian protesters." China defended its rejection of the UN draft resolution, with state media saying Western armed intervention in Libya, Afghanistan and Iraq exposed the risks of forced regime change.
